Specialties
Eating Disorders and Body Image
I have worked extensively in the treatment and prevention of eating disorders. I completed my postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente, Walnut Creek in the adult and teen Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). I have also worked at the outpatient level of care at Temple University and the Berkeley Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Clinic. I believe in a Health at Every Size HAES® approach and utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Family Based Therapy (FBT) treatment modalities.
Chronic Illness, Chronic Pain, and Health Anxiety
I am trained through a Health Psychology focused lens and am passionate about the mind body connection. I have worked as a Behavioral Medicine Consultant in primary care, and have supported many clients with illness and chronic pain to live rich and meaningful lives. I am particularly passionate about helping people with issues such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and other gastrointestinal disorders. I currently offer a Better Living with Illness group where in 6 weeks you will be able to get support from other group members as well as learn tools and skills to live more in line with your values. The protocol for this group is evidence-based using concepts from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Dating and Relationships
Dating and relationships are hard! As a clinical psychologist I have a unique skill set to support you on this journey. Whether you are looking for a partner, having conflict with a loved one, want to work on your social anxiety, navigating a polyamorous relationship, or learn how to get your needs met, I am here to support you. I use a schema therapy based approach to help you identify unmet emotional needs in childhood that may be impacting your relationships at present day. We will challenge your core beliefs by empowering you to make real behavioral change. I apply these same principles of attachment in my work with couples. I am a non monogamy allied professional.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
There are some things that regular talk and behavioral therapy can not get at. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help us to shift where things are stored in our brain so that we don’t feel our past wounds as much in our body. EMDR does not make us forget but helps us to see things differently, at a bit more of a distance, so that we can change our views of ourselves and move forward with our lives. I have received EMDR myself and an a big proponent of it. EMDR is not just for PTSD it can help with any unhealed wounds. Other therapies can feel like putting band aid on but EMDR gets to the root so you are no longer triggered by it.
Adult ADHD
Adult ADHD is something I am very passionate about reducing the stigma of. During my time in graduate school I helped to create a manual to helps students with learning differences such as a ADHD learn to navigate their graduate school experience (e.g. how to get accommodations and support). I enjoy helping my clients understand their strengths that may have developed as a result of ADHD. I am also rewarded by helping my clients navigate the significant challenges that come related to ADHD. Together we will work to help you find organization, planning, and coping skills that will work for you. Please note that I provide therapy for ADHD but do not offer testing but I can help you find someone who can help you with that.
